Setting goals that reap success

Do you have a fear of setting goals? Perhaps its because in the past you haven’t (always) achieved them and your past ‘failed’ goals then becomes a big stick to beat yourself with.
Goal Setting, Business Planning, Business Strategy can appear like business buzz words that all feel a bit intangible and plucked out of thin air. And for many start-ups and those in their first few years seem like something other businesses do.
To make goal setting in your business part of your everyday its important to create the strategies behind achieving, as well as the all-important creating of your business goals.
One of the many reasons business owners don’t achieve goals is that they don’t write them down. Sounds too simplistic doesn’t it? The best answers to any problem are the simplest ones.
14 years into business, goal setting and successfully achieving goals has taught me there are some fundamentals to how business goals can be achieved more easily…
How to achieve your goals:
#1) Create your goals in different formats.
So that you see, hear and feel them in many ways. Vision boards, written goal cards, mind movies, mind maps all make them appear more real and by using language that place them in the here and now creates the neural pathways that your brain needs to feel as if you have already achieved them. Couple this with the law of attraction and more of the ‘how’s’ and right opportunities just seem to come your way.
#2) Develop your own winning mindset.
Any successful business owner will share with you some days, weeks in business can be challenging. And the only thing that helps them get through is resourcefulness, resilience, and an ability to keep picking themselves back up. Develop some strategies around maintaining a positive mindset and it becomes easier to get back up and / or stay up in the first place when times get tough.
Know what works well, for you, to keep yourself in a positive state of mind. Whether its connecting with like-minded people where you can share the challenges (and successes) honestly; meditating, exercising through to reading or listening to business development books. Whatever it may be for you use these strategies as part of your everyday.
As a wise man once said;
“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity, an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” Winston Churchill
#3) Share and Create Accountability.
Only share your goals with people who are, as Dr Brene Brown would say, ‘right there in arena with you’, i.e., the people who are on a similar journey, who understand the everyday struggles and are going after similar goals. Once you start sharing with these people you will find an enormous amount of encouragement and much needed accountability to keep you on track, focused, determined and confident you can and will, meet your business goals.
