Do you Believe?

It’s a big question, but I’m talking about the lowly Christmas Card.
Do you believe in sending Christmas Cards?
Is it a total waste of time and money or it is a nice way to wish clients / contacts Merry Christmas? OR is it a missed marketing opportunity?
I started working with a client in the construction industry a few years ago, we rebranded and created a new website then as Christmas approached I suggested we send Christmas to cards clients. I was met with much resistance! They felt it would be a total waste of time .. who even looks at cards, right!?!
I talked them into it, and they actually ended up with a lovely branded card to send out for the festive season.
From that simple card (about 150 went out) the client received 4 emails – 2 were contacts getting back in touch who were complimenting them on new brand and 2 were dormant clients with some work for the New Year.
This exceeded even my expectations! But what it showed is that a simple activity could generate business as it was a great exercise to remind people you are there.
It doesn’t have to be clever, or sales driven and have a call to action – just a simple message and reminder of your presence!
What I would suggest is;
Include your brand in some way. If budget doesn’t stretch to personalised cards, use stickers!
Don’t sell!!! Yes, it’s a good reminder of your business, but you don’t need a sales message.
Get everyone to sign the card or have them printed inside to save time.
Get organised and send them early i.e., NOW!
Merry Christmas!
