Financial Freedom for Men AND Women
A manifesto to all women
There is nothing wrong with women sharing they want to earn good money. Nothing at all.
Much like ambition, drive and assertiveness, money and confidence for women has somehow come to feel synonymous with aggression, masculinity and well, grubbiness.
Working mostly with creatives, the industry seems to be particularly hit by the lack of self-worth and inability-to-charge-accordingly-stick. One particular talented creative who came for a business kick start is currently supporting her whole family whilst undergoing cancer treatment on an hourly rate that is far from aligned to her more empowered creative counterparts.
If so many women feel guilty about even wanting to earn more money they are highly unlikely to increase their rates to charge their true worth and get them. Thus, perpetuating the guilt. Instead, they are shrinking themselves down, downplaying their strengths and skills and working with clients who are not valuing them (cos they’re not charging/being paid accordingly) and the whole thing becomes a vicious cycle.
Money Myth Busting!
Money brings choices and freedom. Freedom to choose what’s right for you, your business, and your family. Money helps you to choose how you work, when you work, who you work with, live with, don’t live with and so on…
A fellow business owner recently shared her sole purpose for running her Welsh greetings card business is to support women in building ‘F**K you money!’ Proudly bringing in one of her team members who she enabled many years ago to leave a violent marriage with her 4 children because she had helped her become financially free through a job with flexible working hours. Her whole business ethos is now built upon this worthy purpose.
By helping women to create financial independence means that should the worst happen, they are able to leave the family home and support themselves, their children and not only survive, but thrive.
Now we might all not have such a clear and important why but 70% of the business owners that coach with me are women and their top reasons for starting a business always starts with financial freedom and flexibility. With much of the childcare and raising a family still coming down to the woman’s responsibility (not all, but the majority) its time we as women start with themselves and invest in their potential first. The aeroplane analogy of putting your own mask on first has never been more apt.
What do you need to do to increase your self-worth? What needs to change in your business to help you charge your worth? Men and other women who do charge their worth are no better at delivering the product or service than you are. They are just better at Confidence.
A wise woman once shared this quote with me;
‘Give me the confidence of a mediocre man’
It all comes down to confidence. How much is confidence worth to you and your business? It’s priceless.
