Grow your money mindset, Girls!

The number of people thinking about starting a business in 2024 has risen to 35 per cent, an increase of five per cent on 2023.

This is great news.

But male founders are expected to bring in £35,106 in the first year of a full-time business, compared to £25,213 for women. (Source: Kent Live. News)

A shocking 10K gender gap!

Reaching out on LinkedIn with this information the resounding feedback was it’s all about Mindset.

Now, if I’d have talked about working on my money mindset at the start of my business 17 years ago, the thought would have been alien. Today we are much more open to the impact of a positive (and negative) mindset. But what action can you take to negate the latter?

Working on your money mindset will earn you more money and increase your business success. Fact.

So where to start?

Increase your self-belief and in turn your self-worth.

This is my kind of maths! We all know the ripple effects and impact when your confidence increases. We’re able to do more, be more and deliver amazing outcomes.

There are so many ways to increase your self-belief. They all start with YOU.

Here are my Top 3:

  • Create a Ta-Da list! A list of all your achievements – however big or small. If they matter to you, they matter. Do this every day and you’ll soon notice the impact of these have on your self-worth.
  • Create a positive statement – an affirmation / mantra that is in direct contrast to your current money belief. This will hell you to start breaking down the old, negative money mindset.
  • Gather all the good feedback your clients, friends, connections have shared with you over the years (I have a lovey client, who calls this her ‘Smile File’). Read through these any time you need a self-confidence boost.

Stop Over-delivering.

Many business owners I work with (read all!) overdeliver and undercharge.

Stop.

Work out what you are currently delivering to each client, include the time, resources (line by line) and anything else that is involved in delivery. I’ve had clients do this exercise in the past and realise they’re earning less than minimum wage!

Women are Hunter Gatherers too.

Long gone are the days of the 1950’s. Women now earn the most in one-in-four households. (up from one fifth 16 years ago) According to Royal London.

But this doesn’t seem to be reflected in business.

So, whoever needs to hear this…Ladies, if you are in business and want to be the main breadwinner, you can be.

Whether it’s the bills you want to be contributing more to, or you want to be able to treat yourself to monthly facials or be able to buy your kids their school shoes without stressing, You Can. We are hunter gatherers too…
