Love Letter to all Creatives

The creative industry is the fastest growing in the UK right now and contributes £13m to the economy EVERY hour!

Everyone is competing for online space so there is more emphasis, than ever before, for businesses to be visually appealing to grab attention and create engagement.

We all need a sprinkle of creative excellence to make us pop and stand out from the crowd.

Taking a closer look at the creative industry, whether it be graphic designers, marketers, video production, illustrators, web designers – they are all part of the creative tool kit which help build brands and help businesses get heard.  (Not to mention the fact that seeing your own brand out there, fill us with pride and joy for our businesses, but we’ll come on to that…)

Creatives are defined by their ability to think a little differently from a new perspective. They are visual in thought and able to look beyond the detail of a task to the overall aesthetics and emotive impact. Although sometimes far too modest to recognise this.

1. relating to or involving the use of the imagination or original ideas to create something.

“change unleashes people’s creative energy”

noun

INFORMAL

2. a person whose job involves creative work.

The Creatives Mission

The creatives’ sentiments are usually shared through embarrassed, whispered voices from those who approach me for coaching, “I just want to make people happy…”

But these intentions should not be downplayed, as the wise and creative talent, P.T Barnum shared;

“The noblest art is that of making others happy”

Creatives want their business to be fun, they want to feel free and independent; however, seem to fight against holding these values dear as business ought to be serious in order to have stability and progress.

Who says!?

Creatives are at their happiest when they get to experience others enjoying the benefits of something they’ve created and when the customer is compensating their true worth it empowers them with better decision making and a renewed energy for the growth and future of their business.

However, a naturally creative person (unless already learned) may overlook the detail in running a business. Not being naturally predisposed to the day to day running; just talking about setting up systems and processes and marketing their value and worth to the world is enough to send creatives running for the hills!

It’s an age-old question, how do you put a price on art?

Art biz whiz, Cory Huff of The Abundant Artist, uses this approach:

“if my prices don’t make me feel at least a little uncomfortable that I’m charging too much, I’m probably undercharging!”

Charge what you’re worth.

Sound advice. Having coached many creative business owners, this is easier said than done. Confidence comes from deep within.

So, to all creatives out there, if you are reading this please know your work is loved appreciated and we NEED your expertise in our businesses.

If you’re seeking more understanding as to how to recognise your worth and find your place in the market, book in for a Business Kickstart session, I’d love to help.
